The reliability of the Functional Independence Measure (FIMSM) for adults was examined using procedures of meta-analysis. The Functional Independence Measure (FIM) is an 18-item global measure of disability. Each item is scored on 7 ordinal levels. The FIM can be used for measuring disability in a wide range of conditions. The Functional Assessment Measure does not stand alone but adds 12 FAM items to the FIM, The Functional Independence Measure (based on the Barthel Index) was developed in the early 1980s as the central disability scale of the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation in the USA to provide a metric of the burden of care and rehabilitation outcomes (Keith, Granger, Hamilton & Sherwin, 1987). The FIM TM is administered by a 7 Complete Independence (Timely, Safely) 6 Modified Independence (Device) NO HELPER Modified Dependence 5 Supervision (Subject = 100%+) 4 Minimal Assist (Subject = 75%+) 3 Moderate Assist (Subject = 50%+) Complete Dependence 2 Maximal Assist (Subject = 25%+) 1 Total Assist (Subject = less than 25%) HELPER Note: Leave no blanks.
